Only Love Heals a Lost Love
You had said so, before I left you: only love heals a lost love.
I stared deep in your eyes.
“Think so?” I asked.
“Whatever you decide I’ll always be with you” you said, “I’ve got to know it.”
Got into the taxi and started to the airport. Didn’t know where I was heading. I was simply leaving.
“Even if I need to go to the other side of the world, as long as I’m not near him” I said to you back then.
And I left.
Yet, I had taken him with me, in my suitcases and in my mind…I always carried him under my skin.
You asked me on the phone whether I was okay and absentmindedly I said, “Yes”.
After we put the phone down and I took a deep breath filled with the aroma and freshness of the Indian Ocean. Later on, when night came, I raised my head toward the sky and I looked for the Star of the South.
He always found me there with my head toward the sky and he always kissed my neck.
His warm breath would become one with the freshness of the night.

Decision Time
Sarah pounded frantically on the door. She thought it must be
Elizabeth’s door because Elizabeth had just slammed it in Sarah’s
face. Sarah had been trying to explain something to her friend but
Elizabeth had such a hurt look that Sarah could not go on. And
Elizabeth had slammed the door.
But she had to get inside, she had to explain the reason for coming
back to Tillsonburg and why she had lied about Ben. She lifted
her fist to knock again just as the door burst inward to reveal a
glowering Margaret.
“What do you want, Sarah?”
“Margaret, please let me in. I have to tell you something.”
“Go away, Sarah.”
“No, please listen to me. I have no place to go.”
“Go to Ben. Go to your husband.”
“I have no husband, Margaret, and I have no home to go to.”
Margaret began to laugh. She threw her head back and howled
with laughter. The more Sarah pleaded, the harder Margaret
laughed, until the sound became an eerie wail that went on and on
and on ….
Sarah awoke with a start. She sprang to a sitting position in bed,
her heart pounding in her throat. What was that? What had disturbed
her, and more importantly where was she? A faint light from
the window outlined the dressing table and washstand and, as her
eyes registered her surroundings, memory flooded back. But what
had awakened her? Had she been dreaming?
Then she remembered. Margaret had laughed at her … a dreadful
laugh.
Suddenly a wailing sound, like no other Sarah had ever heard…

Twelve Narratives of the Gypsy

The avengers of the war that
just commenced, saviours of
the lands don’t ever exist
hanging on the Chalke Gate
they don’t exist as before,
the shining thunderous arms
sword, shield, and armour plating
the King’s great weapons.
110
And all around the Euphrates
alas, the crown of bravery
the courageous head,
the rose of Cappadocia
the great man of two races,
the frontiersman, on the open
and in secret killed by Hades
the Romiosisni’s great heart.

Troglodytes

V
A pale star emerges from the eastern
crest of the horizon like the navel
of morning and the day’s
virginity always arrives at the
high noon as quick, lengthy rays
splash over heavenly magnolias.
At high noon, the hour when
the atavistic troglodyte
invents the benevolent malice
of steel against the toughest steel
harnesses the golden plumes of fire
cages it in the fiery bowel of the cannon
or the voracious torch and burns
the wings of inspiration,
his brothers’ humble home
his mother’s clayish hut and
the flesh of the bluish wind or
the turrets of the imposing castle.
His hands grasp onto fear, and his heart
resides in the abyss of torment
as the sunless earthly bowels
erupt yellow brimstone and
sulfur to scorch opulence.
