Mnemosyne/ Μνημοσύνη (Roman equivalent: Moneta(0)) was a Titaness, goddess of Memory (1) and the inventor of Words (2)

Mnemosyne was also a goddess of time. She represented the rote memorisation required, before the introduction of writing, to preserve the stories of history and sagas of myth. She was the daughter of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaia (Earth). Uranus and Gaia were the parents of the first generation of Titans, consisting of twelve elder gods/goddesses, being Mnemosyne included among them.

Η γερμανική εισβολή στην Πολωνία την 1η Σεπτεμβρίου 1939 σήμανε την αρχή του Β΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου.

Μία εβδομάδα αργότερα, ο γερμανικός στρατός κατέλαβε και το Λοτζ, την τρίτη μεγαλύτερη πόλη της χώρας και επιτυχημένο κέντρο κλωστοϋφαντουργίας.

Της Iστορίας το περιθώριο


Η Patricia Beer (1919 – 1999), υπήρξε μια Αγγλίδα ποιήτρια που στην πρώτη της ποιητική συλλογή, το 1959, με τίτλο Loss of the Magyar and other poems, συμπεριέλαβε ένα ποίημα, το “The Fifth Sense” (H πέμπτη αίσθηση), εμπνευσμένη από ένα σκηνικό που έτυχε στην Κύπρο, κατά την διάρκεια του απελευθερωτικού αγώνα 55-59’. Βασικά, η Patricia Beer, αναφέρεται σε ένα γεγονός, που έλαβε μέρος στις 30 Δεκεμβρίου του 1957, όπου τα Αγγλικά στρατεύματα, αφού πρώτα φώναξαν δύο φορές αλτ, σε κάποιον βοσκό, ονόματι Νικολής Λοΐζου, αυτός δεν ανταποκρίθηκε, έτσι τον πυροβόλησαν. Όταν εξετάστηκε στο νοσοκομείο, όπου υπέκυψε στα τραύματα του, διαπιστώθηκε πως ήταν κωφός. Η ποιήτρια που την κυρίευσαν οι Ερινύες έγραψε το πιο κάτω ποίημα για χάρη του. Το παραθέτω σε μετάφραση που βρήκα στο διαδίκτυο.

Ακολουθεί θύελλα διαμαρτυριών. Apollo was the son of Zeus andLeto.

The Roman worship of Apollo was adopted from the Greeks. Apollo had no direct Roman equivalent, although later Roman poets often referred to him as Phoebus.

Apollo had a twin sister, Artemis, the Goddess of Hunting.

Mythographers agree that Artemis was born first and then assisted with the birth of Apollo, or that Artemis was born one day before Apollo, on the island of Ortygia and that she helped Leto cross the sea to Delos the next day to give birth to Apollo.

As the patron of Delphi, Apollo was an oracular go, the prophetic deity of the Delphic Oracle.

Callisto (also known as Parrhasia)  was a daughter of the Arkadian King Lykaon and a hunting companion of the goddess Artemis (Also known as Cynthia, roman equivalent: Diana).

Callisto’s themes are instinct and flexibility. Her symbols are a bear, a willow branch and the constellation Ursa Minor.

Callisto wanted to preserve her virginity for as long as she remained in the company of the Huntress- Goddess.

“Callisto once belonged to the sacred circle of Hamdryades and huntress Diana (Artemis). She touched the goddess’ bow : `This bow I touch,’ she cried, `Be a witness to my virginity.’ Cynthia (Artemis) praised her, and said : `Keep the pledge you vowed and you will be my companions’ princeps. Athena (Roman Equivalent: Minerva) was the city protectress of Athens and goddess of war, handicraft, wisdom and practical reason.

She was the daughter of Zeus and Metis, but she was born produced without a mother, so that she emerged full-grown from his forehead. The story of Athena’s birth is perfectly told in the post “The Weirdest Births of Mythology”~ Micromythos. It is said that while Metis was pregnant, Zeus ate the fetus following Uranos’ and Gea’s advice, who told him that if a boy was born, he would snatch his father’s power. About his work, which has been acclaimed since 1979, Cy Twombly offers little information, admitting that he intentionally ascribes a mysterious power to certain words and images. Influenced by American Abstract Expressionism and Old Word past, the artist came by way of initial process of exploration and investigation to adopt a plastic sensibility that conveys the essence, which is the gesture.

Of course, in no way does his abstract tendency parallel that of american abstraction, despite the fact that in 1950, having already met Robert Rauschenberg, he realized that the painting surface interested him as a surface on which no physical visual experience takes place except a working progress of execution.

In Greek Mythology, the Gorgons were three monsters, daughters of Echidna and Typhon. Their names were Stheno (“forceful”), Euryale (“far-roaming”), and the most famous of them, Medusa (“ruler”).  Although the first two were immortal, Medusa was not, and she was slain by the demigod and hero Perseus.

It was said that their  appearance would turn anyone who laid eyes upon it to stone. The name “Gorgon”  is Greek, being derived from “gorgos” and translating as “terrible” or “dreadful”.

Hesiod in his “Theogony” imagines the Gorgons as three sea daemons and makes them the daughters of two sea deities.

Homer speaks only of one Gorgon, whose head is represented in “The Iliad”as fixed in the centre of the aegis (meaning a mirrored shield) of Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom,  and whose counterpart was a device on the shield…
