BULLDOZER

A bulldozer, left in the middle of the road,

is rusting in the sunshine — all alone

among the daisies, nettles, the wild greenery.

Yet, they marched with flags and drums here,

farmers dug this road with their pickaxes.

This bulldozer that was meant to open the road

blocks it now. You don’t even hear the cicadas.

Or has it been left here as a barricade?

Candlestick

Candlestick almost burnt

drips wax over its base

like stalactites turn moments

to eternities you shape

a well formed stanza

a light thanks to

burnt matches in the drawer

with the white napkins

unfolded occasions

one for you one for her

then as if it were a

napkin from inspired

dovetailed drawer rhyme

you fold neatly and place

where ideal

iamb compels

in the middle of the poem

Στην Ξάνθο της Λυκίας, την κρητική αποικία που ίδρυσε ο Σαρπηδόνας, ο αδελφός του Μίνωος, βρέθηκαν τα λείψανα ενός λαμπρού ταφικού μνημείου που χρονολογείται στα 390-380 π.Χ. και πιθανολογείται ότι είναι του Αρμπίνα ενός τοπικού ηγεμόνα. Είναι γνωστό ως μνημείο των Νηρηίδων από τα αγάλματα των θαλασσίων νυμφών που είναι τοποθετημένα ανάμεσα στους κίονες του ναού.
