Here lies my soul

To Roque Dalton

Here lies my soul
you will find oblivion inside
this land huddled to those dreams that no longer wake
the eternal night became a feast
of what one day we were.

Here lies my soul
you will find wings of eyes
in the pupils of a Dalton verse
I read in the prison of the tyrant in Rancagua.

The wounds I defended clash inside
that day I fell.

Tuesday, 5th of September

I am today a magpie of the world
drinking its agony
in a forgotten verse left crying on a table.
I am a magpie today of the world,
walking head down in case I find a smile on the pavement
to drink on the evening of my own death.
