From Odysseus Elytis’ AXION ESTI.

Then, Lefteris, a little further away, as he rolled a cigarette patiently like he had the suffering of the whole Universe on his shoulders, turned and said, “Sergeant, why you resent? The ones who are meant for the smoked herring and the halvah will always return to them and the others to their endless accounting books, and the others to their soft beds which they make but they don’t control.”
