Τελική συμφωνία

Όταν η βροχή χτύπησε τό τζάμι μέ τόνα της δάχτυλο,

τό παράθυρο άνοιξε πρός τά μέσα. Στό βάθος

ένα άγνωστο πρόσωπο, ένας ήχος—η δική σου φωνή;

Η φωνή σου δυσπιστούσε στ’ αυτί σου. Τήν άλλη μέρα

ο ήλιος κατηφόριζε στά χωράφια, σά μιά κάθοδος

αγροτών μέ δρεπάνια καί δικράνια. Βγήκες κ’ εσύ στό δρόμο

φωνάζοντας, χωρίς νά ξέρεις τί φωνάζεις,

σταματώντας μιά στιγμή μ’ ένα χαμόγελο κάτω απ’ τή φωνή σου

σάν κάτω απ’ τή ρόδινη, ολόφωτη ομπρέλα μιάς γυναίκας

πού σεργιάνιζε μπρός στό κικλίδωμα τού πάρκου.

Εκεί αναγνώρισες απρόοπτα πώς αυτή είταν η σωστή σου φωνή

σύμφωνη μ’ όλες τίς ανύποπτες φωνές πού γέμιζαν τόν αέρα.

Final Agreement

When the rain struck the window with one of its fingers

the window opened inward. Deep inside

an unknown person, a sound – your voice?

Your voice distrusted your ear. The next day

the sun went down the fields, like a descent of farmers

with scythes and pitchforks. You too went out to the street

yelling not knowing about what you were yelling,

stopping for a moment with a smile under your voice

as if under the rosy, fully illuminated umbrella of a woman

sauntering along the railing of the park.

There suddenly you recognized that this was your true voice

in agreement with all the unsuspecting voices filling the air.
